Tintagel Island, home of "King Arthurs Castle"

In about 1136, Geofrey of Monmouth completed his history of the Kings of Britain, and gave Tintagel as the "Birth Place" of King Arthur. Arthur as legends tell us, became the Celtic leader and heroic warrior, the leader of resistance against the invading English. In the time of Richard II, the Lord Mayor of London was confined here in 1385, as was Thomas, Earl of Warwick in 1397.
